Launching of the “Life Enrichment Programme for Elderly with Disabilities”

 

This is a 3-year brand new project in collaboration with several elderly NGO partners. Arts treatments are used to delay recession and to improve elderly’s cognitive, mental and physical health. Arts activities include: percussion, photography, story-telling, touch arts, audio description, cultural tours, home delivery arts etc. The project aims at improving the quality of life and sociability of elderly with disabilities, mild cognitive impairment and live-alone elders.

 

The project has launched at HK PHAB Association Peng Chau Neighbourhood Elderly cum Children/ Youth Centre, The Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod Mrs. Mann Tai Po Rhenish Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, and Christian Family Service Centre. The elders responded positively to the workshops, they joined our workshops with their relatives and friends. Their enthusiasm beats the hot summer!

 

 

First year's corriculum


The first year of the program  "Life Enrichment Programme for Elderly with Disabilities" is significantly supported by HK PHAB Association Peng Chau Neighbourhood Elderly cum Children/ Youth Centre, The Chinese Rhenish Church Hong Kong Synod Mrs. Mann Tai Po Rhenish Neighbourhood Elderly Centre, and Christian Family Service Centre. A series of workshop were sucessfully launched, such as percussion , practice on using tactile paper, tangible representation and calligrapgy. Workshops are fresh and are interesting experiences for the elder, they are proactive and joyful in participating.

Second year's corriculum


The second stage of the project has been launched with great responds. We set up new workshops for the elderlies. A recent photography workshop is fully support by CANON HONGKONG CO.,LTD., providing professional equipments for the participants. By understanding the use of professional camera, the elderlies are able to grasp the advanced techque on photo-taking, on capturing the greatest angles of people, objects, and views. It also enhances the communication during the workshops.

Activity Highlights

Third year's corriculum


Entering the third year of the "Arts Together Elderly Art Project", we will cooperate with 18 elder units from different districts in Hong Kong Island, Kowloon and the New Territories. We have also expanded the workshops to different types of cooperative units. It covers district elderly community centre (DECC), neighbourhood elderly centre (NEC), day care centre/unit for the elderly (DEs/DCUs), and etc. We will continue to uphold a series of art therapy workshops, such as percussion workshops, storytelling workshops and photography workshops. It could slow down the decline of the elderly with mild cognitive impairment. We also provide workshops with the elements of art accessibility. The audio description workshop, touch art workshop and the docent training workshop allow the elderly to participate more and expand their social circles. These workshops can also provide knowledge of art accessibility.
